“I listen to the wind, to the wind of my soul.” - Cat Stevens

My non-native Miami friends at the Eat, Pray, Love AirBnB are new to hurricanes. They began asking how to best prepare and if fear was appropriate. I went from a tourist who has been experiencing Miami for the first time after years of being away to a jaded local.

I pointed out we don’t shift into war preparations unless we’re directly in its path. I personally chose to spend tonight reclaiming one of my passions. I watched a Flamenco show at Cava restaurant a few weeks back and ended up mesmerized by one of their dancers. A new friend had been invited to join her on stage and introduced me to her class.

For the first time in years, I learned choreography. I was surrounded by individuals who understand the importance of doing things you’re passionate about. I cannot stress this enough. If you always wanted to learn how to dance, sign up for a class. If you want to play an instrument, find a teacher.

Never let society dictate your timeline. There is an interesting correlation between the fiery nature of flamenco and the uncontrolled strength of a hurricane. The graceful hand gestures signaling the calm before the storm.

I could have stayed home and joined the unnecessary panic but chose to live instead. Make time to achieve goals that can only be measured in spiritual and personal growth; depth of feeling over monetary gain. Your soul will thank you later.
